The change of many coatings to water base has started new era for the painting contractor. While many environmental and health concerns have been addressed by these changes, they have created significant challenges for the painter in terms of technique, equipment and knowledge.

Some coatings may require stainless steel equipment due to significant acidity or alkalinity. Others work best with air assist airless or HVLP. Most require a change in nozzle size, gun type or technique to achieve good results.
